There was a clear target for Ten Brinke in Portugal; finish this weekend in front of the other title-contender for the championship. With a 3rd place finish, Ten Brinke is happy with the outcome of this prologue. Due to the result, they were able to decide the starting position for the special stage.

The first stage was delayed by one hour because of heavy rain. Ten Brinke and co-driver Colsoul were driving one of the toughest stages they’ve ever experienced. This was because of the big amounts of water on the stage and the narrow paths. They did face other problems to, since the Hilux run full with water so the engine was not able to get to the right temperature. They had to stop for over two minutes to heat up the engine again. They still managed to finish on a decent P3 and in front of the other title-contender.

On day two there were two stages scheduled but due to the weather the second stage got cancelled. “This stage was not flawless when we hit a tree trunk and got a puncture with just 20km to go. We decided not to stop and drive to the finish with the puncture. We couldn’t drive at our full speed but we were able to win the stage. I’m very happy with this result!”

The next and last round of the World Championship will be held in Saudi-Arabia. Ten Brinke and Colsoul are leading the championship.
